Modifying MIME mappings

    The Web server is set up to handle the most common MIME types. Over 75 MIME type mappings come with AppleShare IP. You can add, edit, or delete MIME mappings. You can have up to 150 mappings.

Viewing MIME mappings

    To view the mappings:
    1 Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer.
    2 Press the Web Services button and choose Configure Web Server.
    3 Click the MIME Types tab.

Adding or changing MIME mappings

    If you want your Web server to support an action that isn't currently in the MIME Types window, you may want to add new MIME type mappings.

    To add or edit a new MIME type mapping:
    1 If the MIME Types panel isn't open, follow the instructions in "Viewing MIME mappings," above.
    2 In the MIMI Types panel, add or select a mapping:
    To add a new mapping, click the New button.
    To add a new mapping based on a current one, select a mapping and click Duplicate.
    To edit a mapping, click a mapping and click Edit.
    3 Choose a Web server response from the pop-up menu. If you choose Execute File, locate the application associated with this mapping.
    4 In the File Suffix box, type a period and the file suffix to be associated with this mapping.
    5 If you wish, enter the following information:
    File type associated with this mapping. The file type is case-sensitive. If you type fewer than four characters, space characters are added.
    Macintosh creator code associated with this mapping. The creator code is case-sensitive. If you type fewer than four characters, space characters are added.
      If you do not enter a file type or creator code, an asterisk appears, which represents a wild card match to any file suffix or creator code.
    6 Enter the MIME type for this mapping.
    7 Click Save.
    8 For your changes to take effect, stop and start the Web server.

Deleting MIME mappings

    To delete a MIME type mapping:
    1 In the MIME Types panel, select a mapping and click Delete.
    If the MIME Types panel isn't open, follow the instructions in "Viewing MIME mappings," above.
    2 Click Save.
    3 Stop and start the Web server.
